Madol Field Hospital in Aweil East, South Sudan, opened in February 2025 and was inaugurated by Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan in March. It serves as a critical center for both emergency and general medical care in the region.
Phase 1: Establishing Core Outpatient and Emergency Services
Phase 1 introduced comprehensive outpatient care, including general medicine, surgery, pediatrics, ENT, and orthopedics, supported by a 24-hour Emergency Department as well as laboratory, pharmacy, and radiology services.
Phase 2: Expanding Inpatient and Critical Care Capacity
Phase 2 was accelerated in response to urgent community needs and added 40 inpatient beds, an Intensive Care Unit, and a fully equipped Operating Theatre, significantly enhancing the hospital’s service capacity.
Despite limited resources, the hospital successfully managed recent malaria and cholera outbreaks. Staffed by 94 healthcare professionals, Madol Field Hospital also leads public health initiatives through vaccination campaigns and upcoming malaria intervention programs, solidifying its position as a vital regional healthcare hub.
